Title: Wild Awake

Author: Hilary T. Smith

Release Date: June 2013

Kiri Byrd’s parents are out of town for the summer. For most teens, this might mean a summer of partying and rule breaking, but that’s not Kiri’s plan. As a dedicated musician, she plans to have a rigorous piano practice schedule, in preparation for her showcase. But one phone call from a strange man who claims to have her dead sister’s things sends her perfectly planned summer into a spiral of love, passion, and mystery.

In her stunning debut novel, Hilary T. Smith portrays an incredible modern coming-of-age story that leaves the reader with a sense of bewilderment and satisfaction. It has been a while since I’ve read a novel so profound and mind-blowing. The words flowed together seamlessly, and I hardly noticed that there were chapters, as there were never breaks in the story. It’s hard to convey the deep emotional side to this book, but I can say that this book takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster, causing feelings of exhilaration, heartbreak, and intense passion. Bottom line: read this book, it won’t disappoint.
